Welcome to the website of pianist David Kalhous.  As you will surely notice, this site is still a work in progress. At this point, you will find some information here about my past and  more recent musical endeavors, as well as a calendar of selected upcoming performances.  Soon, I will post more about my various artistic projects and include audio files and press photos.  I will also start creating a free-floating semi-annotated list of extended quotes by people whose works of art, criticism and philosophy have over the years resonated (both agreeably and disagreeably) with my thinking and music making.  

I have the idea that a part of this website could, in due time, become more than a utilitarian tool used for unabashedly egotistic promotion of an aspiring pianist.  As many of us retreat into (often comforting) conspiracies of clearly defined (and often narrowing) specialized disciplines, I wonder if a platform for informal debates on specific interdisciplinary issues could be of interest to my artist, philosopher, literary theorist, religionist, and social scientist friends and acquaintances.  My hope is that in the near future, I will find the time to start an interactive journal of sorts, exploring interesting connections and ruptures within the Western aesthetic and social discourse of the past several hundred years.  The success of such an endeavor will of course depend on how many of you will be persuaded that there is a need for another ... blog.  That remains to be seen.
